The Benefits of Chiropractic Care For Teenagers

"Chiropractic often helps with what is traditionally understood with chiropractic care: back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, etc. Teenagers often report the following benefits from chiropractic care: a decrease in depression and anxiety, increase in mental clarity and ability to focus and concentrate.  I often find, and get reports from teenagers, that they are better able to handle exams and studying while being adjusted regularly. It is often reported that injuries heal faster and there is an overall sense of improved emotional and physical health."

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Keltie answers common questions about chiropractic services for Teenagers and what to expect during your visit.

Is chiropractic care safe and appropriate for teenagers, and are there any age-related considerations?

Yes.

Teenagers are reaching the end of skeletal maturity therefore this could be considered one of the most vital times to start chiropractic care if they have not already done so in order to ensure the best outcome for later in life.  Teenagers often start to suffer neck and back pain from being in school and studying.  This is often when they start developing headache issue that often plague people for a lifetime if not correctly cared for.  Each person develops at a different rate, therefore, the approach will match the maturity and needs for that individual teenager.

What potential benefits can teenagers gain from chiropractic care, especially in terms of their physical and mental well-being?

Chiropractic often helps with what is traditionally understood with chiropractic care: back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, etc. Teenagers often report the following benefits from chiropractic care: a decrease in depression and anxiety, increase in mental clarity and ability to focus and concentrate.  I often find, and get reports from teenagers, that they are better able to handle exams and studying while being adjusted regularly. It is often reported that injuries heal faster and there is an overall sense of improved emotional and physical health.

What are some specific signs or symptoms in teenagers that might indicate a need for chiropractic care?

Developing anxiety issues, withdrawal from friends and family, anger outbursts, emotional dis-regulation, inability to concentrate on school work, insomnia, ADHD, physical pain, constantly getting sick, not healing from being sick quickly and new or developing allergies.

What is the typical duration and frequency of chiropractic sessions for teenagers, and how long should they expect to continue treatment?

Sessions are the same length after the initial assessment, it only take s a few minutes. How long ongoing care plans are all dependent on the goals and objectives that the teenager and their parents are wishing to achieve. Life long improvement in health is a goal I often discuss with parents, and is a product of routine care. If it’s simply to eliminate a specific symptom then that all is dependent on each individual and can’t be determined in advance.

What techniques and methods do you use for providing chiropractic care to teenagers, and are they adapted to the age and needs of the patient?

I use a combination of different techniques. Which technique depends on the teenager on the table and how they respond to a specific technique. I can use light force techniques, to medium, to traditional techniques. I use a combination of diversified, Thompson, drop table, Integrator and activator, webster, MC2, MacDonald Safety Corridor, SOT, cranial, and MLS to name a few.

How can my teenager prepare for a chiropractic session, and what should they expect during the appointment?

The best thing for a teenager to do is to come with an open mind and a desire to improve. The initial assessment will take about 45 minutes and we treat teenagers with the respect we do adults, we educate them on what is happening and walk them through it each step of the way. We ask for consent before we do anything and get feedback to make sure they are comfortable with what we have done. They are in control so they feel safe. That is our number one priority with teenagers.
